US Cellular Community Park - Medford, Oregon

Hardey Engineering is the City of Medford Park and Recreation Department's civil engineering and surveying consultant for the $25 plus million dollar, 134 acre U.S. Cellular Community Park from the conceptual master-planning phase to contract document preparation and construction over the past six years.

HEA was the civil consultant to the landscape architect, Walker Macy, during the Sport Park's master-plan and design of Phase I, which included the construction of the main intersection off Highway 99 and the Entry Drive to the Bear Creek Bridge.  HEA assumed the lead consultant role to the Park's Department for the next two phases which are the Softball Complex and Field Sports Complex.  Phase II was completed in 2008 and is a $6.8 million dollar state-of-the-art five field Softball Complex.    HEA directed and coordinated with the following four design sub-consultants, SportsPLAN Studio of Kansas City, MO, ArcSine Engineering of Redding, CA, Terra Science of Portland, OR, and the Galli Group of Grants Pass; and was instrumental in having the originally planned four-field complex increased to a five-field complex, allowing the City to host some of the largest softball and baseball tournaments on the West Coast. We were responsible for nearly all aspects of this phase of the project, from coordinating the aerial topographic survey to final design and construction engineering and inspection, including flood-plain engineering to protect this facility from Bear Creek floodwaters.

HEA also completed the topographic survey and final civil design for the Field Sports Complex, which broke ground for construction on May 12, 2008 and will be completed by May 2009.  WE led the same consulting team for the roughly $12 million dollar six-field soccer/football and baseball complex.   Again, this project is being constructed with synthetic turf fields and once constructed when combined with the Softball Complex will be the second largest municipal-owned facility with Field Turf in the country.  Our role on this project was expanded to include floodplain engineering to protect the facility from Bear Creek and Gore Creek.  In addition to the fields, the project includes nearly a half mile of roadway and utilities, along with two large parking lots, two restroom/concession buildings, grandstands, press box, and maintenance yard.

The final piece to the completion of this Community Park (phase IV) will include additional synthetic turf softball/baseball fields, three parking lots, pavilion reception area, pedestrian bridge over Bear Creek, and over an 1/8 mile extension of roadway and utilities.
